Here are some concrete ways in which you can give assistance to your community through the Presbyterian Community Center:
Monetary Donations: Your tax-deductible donation can be accepted through our pay pal account.
| Food Lion VIP Card Program: Food Lion supports the Presbyterian Community Center through its VIP card program. You simply need to register your Food Lion VIP card as a PCC participating card. This can be done on-line at www.foodlion.com or at the customer service desk in the store. Once your card is registered, Food Lion will donate to the PCC a percentage of the amount you spend every time you use your VIP card. | Kroger Cares Program: The PCC invites you to become part of the “Kroger Cares” fundraising program that benefits the Center. It's as easy as 1, 2, 3!
- Send $5 to the Presbyterian Community Center and we will send you a Kroger card "loaded" with your $5.
- The next time you shop at Kroger, please stop by the service desk or any cash register before you check out and load the card with any additional amount you wish. Then use the card to pay for your groceries each time you shop. Your receipt will record the amount remaining on the card. When the amount gets low, simply repeat the process.
- Each time you load your card, Kroger donates 5% of the amount to the PCC.
Your participation in this program is a great help to us and encourages Kroger to remain a strong community partner.
| Neighborhood Assistance Program: The Neighborhood Assistance Program (NAP) is a tax incentive program offered through the Virginia Department of Social Services. The program allows state tax credits for eligible donations made to qualified tax exempt organizations. Created in 1981, its purpose is to encourage private sector involvement in the alleviation of poverty in Virginia. Eligible nonprofit organizations such as the Presbyterian Community Center are awarded allocations on a basis of proven operational success and their capacity to serve impoverished people.
Any Virginia individual or married couple may be eligible for a state tax credit equal to 40% of their cash donation. The minimum donation must be at least $500, for a $200 tax credit. There is a maximum of $50,000 in tax credits per taxable year.
Certain business donors are also eligible for NAP credits equal to 40% of the donation value. The donation value must be at least $1,000 and includes cash, stock, merchandise (including inventory) and real estate, rent/lease facility, health care services, professional services and contracting services.

| Pathways Patron: Needy families do not have the means to afford academic enrichment or quality after-school programs for their children. Pathways for Youth provides academic and cultural enrichment opportunities to low-income families in a safe and nurturing environment. Parents are asked to invest a small, sliding scale activity fee of $5 - $15 per month, depending on income. Beyond that, enrollment in Pathways is free of charge to all families.
Would you consider helping the Presbyterian Community Center to provide a quality after-school experience to less fortunate families? The PCC spends approximately $3,500 per year for each student enrolled in Pathways. Making a tax deductible gift to Pathways is an investment in a child and in the future of our community. As a patron of the Pathways program, your generous donation will make it possible for the PCC to serve less fortunate children and their families with a safe, nurturing and enriching after-school program that will significantly impact school readiness and engage the child’s family in positive parenting.

| Volunteer: With only 4 full-time and 5 part-time employees, the Presbyterian Community Center depends heavily upon volunteer support to fulfill our mission. In 2007, approximately 500 caring volunteers have donated at least one hour of time to the PCC.
The Emergency Services program seeks volunteers to work in the food pantry, stocking reserves and preparing food orders for needy clients. Volunteers are also needed to interview clients, work at the front desk, answer phones and prepare client intake forms.
The PCC after-school programs seek tutors to work with children one hour per week, helping with homework, worksheets or studying. We seek “helping hands” for 2-3 hours one day per week to prepare healthy snacks for our children when they arrive from school.
We are also seeking volunteers to mentor a child at least twice a month. Especially welcome are volunteers age 50 or older to participate in our “Across Ages” mentoring program. Mentors receive training, support, mileage reimbursement and opportunities for mentoring activities.
Take advantage of these fun and meaningful experiences, volunteer at the PCC today!
For information on all volunteer activities, please contact Cheryl Poe, Director of Volunteer Services at volunteers@pccse.org or 540-982-2911. |
